The Ideal Candidate

You are a driven, high-achieving student or professional looking for a position in the investment banking, private equity or hedge fund industries.

You may have previously looked at a career in investment banking, but lacked the required technical skills or experience.  Now’s the time to look again.

The Overview

Learn the hard skills necessary to pursue a successful career in investment banking. The training program at New York School of Finance gives you training and experience in financial modeling, valuation, mergers & acquisitions and leveraged buyouts, without spending years in school. You will learn technical modeling from an analyst perspective, and how to interpret and use the model as an investment bank associate would.

The program is led by working financial experts with years of experience so you get the up-to-the-minute skills it takes to succeed in today’s industry.

Our unique instruction method ensures that you have not only the theory, but also the hands-on practice you need to make sound financial decisions in real time.

As a New York School of Finance student not only do you learn from trainers with experience at the world’s largest and most profitable investment banks, you also take part in a coveted internship program at a boutique investment bank, private equity firm, venture capital fund or hedge fund.

The Outcome

Hone your skills with experience in real-world business transactions, and make connections that could support your future career growth.

In addition to the technical and interpretive skills that investment bankers use on the job, we emphasize being ready for employment with excellent resumes and interview preparation.

You will learn interview skills vital to securing a position in a competitive job market, thanks to our emphasis on mock interviews. Our career support services also include resume critique, so you can feel confident as you meet recruiters from the hub of the financial world.

The Program Curriculum

Weeks 1-4

In these critical first weeks of the program, you will learn core model building. Accounting concepts are refreshed while we learn techniques behind projecting an income statement, cash flow statement, balance sheet, and supporting schedules. Taking Wal-Mart as a case-study, you will gain the understanding of not only how to interpret financial reports but how to assess future performance. You will be tested on topics learned to assess progress. Our testing also serves as great interview preparation.

Weeks 5-8

The next four weeks focus on the concepts and practical use of valuation. The full financial model built in the first four weeks is now assessed for value. You will learn to build an accurate set of comparable companies, understand precedent transactions, and conduct a discounted cash flow analyses. Furthering model interpretation, we begin to discuss and model equity raises, debt raises, asset acquisitions and divestitures. These are fundamental concepts that seed transactional M&A learned in the next weeks. We introduce the concept of M&A by discussing and modeling an accretion / dilution analysis – the core analysis to assess financial impact of a target company into an acquirer in a merger or acquisition.

Weeks 9-12

These weeks focus on full-scale mergers and acquisitions. You will apply core valuation, acquisition and divestiture concepts to a full-scale merger model. Taking a real world case study, we assess the combined financial performance of two companies – Office Depot and Office Max – building a complete merged model including all three financial statements and supporting schedules. A final exam tests skills learned and also proves as interview preparation.

Weeks 13-16

The final four weeks of the program focuses on the topic of leveraged buyouts. We introduce the concepts honing in on subjective and further high-level analyses. We then apply core concepts into a full-model case study – the acquisition of the Heinz company by 3G and Berkshire Hathaway. We conclude these four weeks with a series of model case studies that prove a test of entire program knowledge and strong technical interview preparation.
